emma goto's digital garden & blog
i found emma's website, emgoto.com, a little less than a year ago when i was working on tweaking my astro blogging site (now migrated safely and happily to bear) and was trying to leave my neovim journaling system for obsidian (though i never did abandon nvim 🎉). anyhow, she had a post about building a digital garden with obsidian and astro which was helpful at the time, and this is how i found her.
what is interesting about her digital garden/blog is how she has tracked her own evolution and trajectory from a primarily programming blog to an interest-based journal writing about books, hiking, birding, photography, personal updates, and, of course, still some coding. the scale of her digital garden is huge compared to most blogs. her writing is informative and inviting. i'll likely never be able to make it to japan, so it is lovely to see the countryside through her hikes.
one of the coolest additions (as of last jan. 2026) is her map giving a geographic life to her hiking posts. as a geographer, i thought this was an amazing idea and sad that my own blogs and writing haven't found a way to be mapped like this. maybe something for the future of my ever-evolving digital garden? anyway, enough about me, tuck in to some great writing from emma below.
