oh my blog!

maggie appleton: the digital garden (or forest 🌳?) as blog

a digital garden is an online journal, or, as maggie appleton puts it: it is a "philosophy for publishing personal knowledge on the web."

in my opinion, her garden has begun to look more like a forest. it has a complex system of trees with deep roots and a biodiverse assortment of undergrowth. the digital garden metaphor just doesn't seem to be big enough to capture the scope of her work and knowledge network here. it shouldn't be forgotten, we also tend our forests. yes, they feel more wild ... but we tend to them, and we care for them just as we do our gardens.

maggie's digital garden is a blog and her blog is a digital garden. but i think we should probably expand this concept to fully appreciate the complexity and wonder of what she has done. her digital garden has turned into a digital forest rich with activity and life. it is a forest i visit often and one that i truly enjoy getting lost in.
